Beautiful Bungee and Family

The last Sunday in May was the coldest winter morning on record for the month. Bec and Josh wanted a beach shoot with their gorgeous boy Bungee.  Beach shoots are always a challenge because of all the distractions.  Other dogs, beckoning waves, long stretches of sand where my clients just don’t come back! It’s always an interesting couple of hours.  I suggested that we shoot at sunrise.  I think I made that suggestion when the sun was still getting up at 5.00am and it was warm outside! So the sun was up at 6.00 and I wore a beanie.  It was freezing!!!!! I met Bec, Josh and Bungee at Duranbah Beach just on the border of the Queensland and NSW.  What a fabulous location! It was just us, a couple of surfers and one lone kelpie on the beach.  We were all amazed at how this sweet little pup was happy to sit, totally focused on the surf, waiting whilst his owner was out for an early.   I love this couple and Bungee is the sweetest, most beautiful border collie.  He is well behaved, and highly trained.  He is a graduate of Anthea Holmes and Craig A Murray Training.  Bungee has done puppy school and juvenile training with Anthea and you can tell.

Kirsten - Wonderful series of images, gorgeous light and looks like a lot of fun!

{Not Just A Dog Photographer!}

When Heston’s mum called me she was really excited.  She told me that Heston had just completed his juvenile training with Anthea from Craig A Murray and wanted to use the “thank you” voucher she had received from Craig, Tracey and Anthea.  She also asked if it was ok if she brought her partner and his 3 children along.  Oh Yeh!  The more the merrier!  I told her that K9 Photography is a portrait photography studio that specialises in pet photography however I love photographing families especially kids.  It was a drizzly day down in Murwillumbah, NSW but we were prepared with gumboots and an umbrella!  Well some of us were.  Anyway it was a fabulous couple of hours.  The kids are adorable, Heston is edible and here is a smattering of images from their shoot!

Enjoy  Diana xx

{Vanuatu Bound}

I have followers on my facebook page from all over the world and every now and again somebody pipes up and says, “I wish you were here”.   I love seeing that comment and my response is always the same.  “I can be there – I am portable.  I have a passport and I can go anywhere.   Which brings me to my first international client.

Cassie is one of those followers who said, “I wish you were in Vanuatu”.  For those of you who don’t know where Vanuatu is, it’s an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is some 1,750 kilometres (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia.  I normally only travel an hour in either direction of the Gold Coast and yes I was going to need my passport.

After many discussions we finally agreed that I would come for 5 days to meet her wonderful adopted family of 4 dogs and a couple of ring-ins that turn up for dinner most nights.  I also worked for Cassie’s parents and their menagerie of 2 dogs and a cat.

Cassie picked me up from the airport and I jumped into her 4-wheel drive on the wrong side.  It was like being in the States.  I was freaking out sitting in the driver’s seat with no steering wheel and driving on the opposite side of the road with potholes the size of mini craters.  Well Vanuatu is a volcanic island after all and I was also very concerned about the amount of stray dogs busily going about their business on the sides of the roads. I was either going to have to adjust very quickly or start picking them up and taking them with us in the back of the truck.

We arrived home and met the gang.  Naala, a beautiful Rottweiler, Chango, Gizmo and Slim all island specials as Cassie calls them.  I was kissed by all of them!

I could see why Cassie wanted me to come and capture her family.  Her devotion to these dogs is incredible.  They are all rescues and she would rescue all of them if James would let her.  I also had the pleasure of photographing Sky and Caramel.  Caramel is a rescue and was originally Cassie’s dog.  She came to live with Cassie’s parents and Sandra’s bond with Caramel is a joy to see. Sky is totally Paul’s girl and that’s all I’m going to say.

I am hoping to go back to Vanuatu and do a story on their local rescue group.  They work tirelessly to try to educate the local community about spaying and neutering the dogs and cats to try to reduce the amount of strays found on the Island.  They offer a free service to do so every Wednesday.

It was an incredible experience for me, both on a personal and professional level and I can’t wait to get back there.

I trust you will enjoy some of the Images captured. x Diana

Natalie at Ozzi Cat - Hi Diana,
Fantastic photos! You are very talented!

May be you can help please. You said Cassie is helping a local rescue group in Vanuatu. We will be holidaying there and would love to volunteer a day to help cats in need or just to say hello to people who help cats in Vanuatu.
(Here in Australia apart from many other things we publish an Australian National Cat Magazine “Ozzi Cat” to educate Aussies about cats and help our Aussie cats in need – http://OzziCat.com.au )

I tried to find any info about cat organisations, shelters or rescue groups in Vanuatu but no luck. If I could talk to Cassie may be she can advice how to contact one, that would be fantastic. Could you please connect us with Cassie? May be to give her my email so I can ask her for further details?

Thank you so much!
xx Natalie

{Ellie & Samson}

When someone books at session and tells me that it’s a puppy I squeal with delight.  I lurvve my puppy fixes and at 16 weeks I could hardly wait to meet Samson, a pure bred Bull Mastiff.  Ellie warned me, she said he’s going to be a big boy he weighs 25kg already!  I actually wasn’t expecting him to almost knock me over when he got out of the car but sure enough, I was licked and slobbered as soon as he saw me.   Lucky Ellie has him well trained.  She is a clever cookie.  Big dogs need to be reigned in.  They need to know who’s the boss and Ellie is no pushover that’s for sure.  I had a few more cuddles and gave Samson a couple of treats and we were ready to go.   Just before we headed off to our location I asked her if he likes the water.  No.  He hates the water.  What I should have said was does he like ducks and swans.  As soon as we crossed the little bridge he was gone and in the water quicker than you can say quack!   Luckily I keep a stash of towels in the car.  Trust me, he’s not the first non-swimmer to end up in that lake and he won’t be the last!  Ellie you are gorgeous and so is Samson.  I hope you love your images as much as I do.
